Oman- Duqm Refinery awards contract for petchem complex to Wood

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Duqm Refinery and Petrochemicals Industries Company (DRPIC) has awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for its petrochemicals complex in Duqm to the UK-based Wood Plc.
The FEED services also include the natural gas liquids (NGL) extraction facility in central Oman and the 230km pipeline from concession areas to the petrochemicals complex that falls under Oman Oil Company and Orpic scope, DRPIC said in a press statement.
Confirming the award of the new contract for Duqm Refinery's petrochemicals facility in Duqm, Wood on Monday said that it has already delivered associated studies for the facility, which will include a world-scale steam cracker unit; production facilities for hydrogen, syngas, methanol, and other petrochemicals; and associated utilities.

Effective immediately, the project will be delivered by Wood's capital projects' teams based in Oman and the UK. The work is to be completed by the third quarter of 2020 and will see up to 300 people working on the project during the peak delivery phase, Wood said in a statement on its website.

DRPIC said the technology selection and award of the multiple licensed units for the petrochemical complex will complete in the early stage of FEED.

Dr Salim al Huthaili, chief executive officer of DRPIC said, 'The award of FEED contract came after a rigorous competitive tendering process. This key milestone enable Duqm Refinery to maximise the value of the refinery products and enhance its market competitiveness. This project is our further contribution to the Omani economy and will allow us to deliver against our strategic objective to ensure a sustainable and economic prosperity for both Oman and our shareholders.'

The Duqm Petrochemical Project is the second stage of the integrated refinery and petrochemical complex planned by Duqm Refinery.

Oman Oil and Orpic will take the lead in developing the NGL extraction unit and required pipeline. NGL plant will be located in the concession areas in central Oman and connected with Oman Gas Company's gas network. A pipeline will be constructed to transport NGL stream from the NGL extraction plant to the petrochemical complex.
