(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The visiting State Council delegation, led by H E Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, on Wednesday was received at the Westminster Foundation for Democracy in the UK, by its CEO Anthony Smith and Dina Melhem, director for Asia and the Middle East and North Africa.
As per a statement, H E Dr Mantheri valued the contribution of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy in deepening the historical ties between the two countries by expanding their areas of cooperation through the implementation of varied activities and events.
Smith briefed the council delegation about the activities of the foundation and its role in strengthening parliaments in the African, Eastern European and Middle East countries, as well as supporting civil society institutions.
H E Dr Mantheri and his delegation, later on met with the chairman of New Generation Group, Oliver Blake at the Anglo–Omani Society. Blake delivered a presentation on the New Generation Group that was established in 2011 to work within the Anglo–Omani Society. Its aim was to maintain the historical friendship between Britain and the sultanate and instill awareness among the new generation, the significance of these relations for the two friendly countries through creating a solid platform for the exchange of cultural and expertise in all fields.
He noted that the group carries out many activities such as seminars and regular meetings throughout the year, which provides opportunities for the development of bilateral relations between the two countries to push the cooperation to a broader perspective.
Following this, H E Dr Mantheri and his delegation met with Lord Geoffrey James Dear, Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, Lord Richard Napier Luce and Baroness D'Souza during which Anglo–Omani Society's achievements were reviewed. The meeting was attended by the delegation including Hon Sayyid Dr Said Sultan Hamood al Busaidi, Hon Eng Naashiah Saud Mohamed al Kharoosi, Hon Yahya Rasheed Rashid al Juma'a and Hon Saleh al Zakwani, and
H E Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Zahir al Hinai, Oman's Ambassador to the UK.
