Kuwaiti society relieves Syrian refugees in Jordan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, June 10 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti Humanitarian Relief Society has concluded a large-scale campaign to support Syrian refugees in Jordan as part of a year-round philanthropic program.
Khaled Al-Shamri, the society director general, said in a statement to KUNA on Monday that the campaign kicked off in late fasting month of Ramadan and proceeded till Eid Al-Fitr's holiday.
Clothes were given to 600 Syrian children, he said, explaining that the kids got the dresses through paid coupons where they picked the suitable garments at stores.
Clothes were also distributed to 700 children at refuge houses in the northern province of Irbid.
The society, for the sixth consecutive year, has held an entertainment festival for 1,500 Syrian refugees settling at randomly built camps in the border region of Al-Mefreq.
The campaigns included entertainment activities and awarding contests.
As a standing state policy, Kuwait has been aiding millions of Syrian refugees, scattered in several countries, namely states neighboring Syria. Large sums had been allocated for the Syrians during conferences hosted by Kuwait.
Owing to its handsome aid for the needy in the region and across the world, Kuwait has been designated by the United Nations as a "Humanitarian Center." The Gulf State Amir, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has been honored by the international organization with the title, "The Humanitarian Leader." (end)
