Doha: With Doha Metro's Red Line in operation throughout the Eid break, many people had discovered a number of destinations to spend their Eid holidays, one of which was Souq Al Wakrah which had seen visitors come in large numbers in the past few days.

The Red Line has its last station in the south in Al Wakrah which had seen increased influx of visitors from all over the country, of whom many are considering Souq Al Wakrah as an alternative place to visit during holidays.

'It took me only 10 minutes to travel from Doha to Al Wakrah through the metro and the presence of the free metrolink feeder buses has even made travel seamless and hassle-free, said Franco, one of the visitors to Souq Al Wakrah, which is one of the major stops of the feeder bus M127.

Mahmoud, who came to the souq with his entire family via the metro, said he would surely come back to the souq in the near future because of the ease of travel and the nice view and facilities.

'I'll definitely return here in the next Eid holidays, or perhaps during weekends for a change because we usually spend time during my off-days in famous spots in Doha like Souq Waqif and Katara, he said.
Many of those coming to Al Wakrah through the metro could be seen disembarking from the feeder bus at the souq.

Souq Al Wakrah's charm builds upon its very traditional feel with the structure of shops patterned after ancient Qatari architecture coupled with the long strip of restaurants and cafes facing the beach.

Yesterday, Souq Al Wakrah's beach area was filled with families who took the last chance to spend their Eid holidays to swim as well as take advantage of the various facilities, games and other features of the souq's unique Sea and Sand Park.

From inflatables and kiddie rides to water sports and extreme sports to animal rides and the petting zoo, the park has everything for the entire family.

While some visitors enjoyed extreme sports truing the scooters, BMX bikes and skateboards at the skate park, others tried rock climbing.

Some children tried kiddie rides such as electric scooters, electric bikes, beach buggies and pedal bikes, while there were those who enjoyed animal rides including camel, horse, and pony ride. Inflatables and fun and learn activities were among the other features of the park which appealed to many children.

Many visitors also tried the variety of cuisines on offer at restaurants and cafes along the beach. For Souq Al Wakrah's Eid Al Fitr festival which runs until tomorrow, there is a huge tent where a number of games and family rides can be availed at cheap price.
