15 die in prison fight in Brazil

(MENAFN) Brazilian authorities said a prison conflict in northern Brazil has led to 15 deaths on Sunday.

They said the incident took place at the Anisio Jobim Prison Complex in the Amazon Rainforest region, which appeared to be a fight between inmates during visit hours.

Head of the Prison Administration Secretariat said: "There had never been deaths during visiting hours. Some inmates died in their locked cells. The crimes were committed in front of inmates' families."

He said the victims were killed by strangulation or stabbed with toothbrushes.
