(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Bank Muscat has extended support for the second consecutive year to the 'Fak Kurba' initiative launched by the Omani Lawyers Association (OLA).
This initiative will help secure the release of citizens who have been jailed for failing to clear financial obligations. None of these cases relate to payments involving banks or financing firms. This generous gesture by the bank will facilitate reunion with their families during the joyous occasion of Eid al Fitr.
As part of its CSR initiatives, Bank Muscat presented a cheque to OLA to resolve 220 cases of citizens who are currently serving a prison term or who have arrest warrants issued against them, at a ceremony organised at the bank's head office.
The cheque was presented to the association following an agreement signed by Sheikh Waleed K al Hashar, chief executive officer, Bank Muscat, and Dr Mohammed Ibrahim al Zadjali, chairman, OLA, in the presence of Bank Muscat management team members and the association members.
Hashar said, 'Bank Muscat is privileged to support the unique 'Fak Kurba' initiative by OLA as part of its CSR initiatives. We thank OLA for this great humanitarian initiative, which has been organised annually since 2012. We are happy to partner with them this year and help secure the release of 220 citizens so as to have a joyous Eid al Fitr reunion with their families.
'Bank Muscat always leads by example in sustainable social development initiatives and we encourage all corporates in Oman to support such initiatives that can spread happiness and joy in the lives of those currently facing hardships.'
Dr Zadjali said that 1,715 cases had been closed in the past five years by Fak Kurba and that over 100 lawyers were volunteering in this initiative currently. 'Financial donations from institutions and the general public are collected through direct deposit in the bank account of the Fak Kurba initiative as well as through cash or cheque payments made at the association's head office. Some funds are also being raised through exhibitions for the initiative. Two exhibitions have so far been held in Muscat and Salalah while a third exhibition is scheduled to be held in Ibri.'
Dr Zadjali added, 'I express my sincere thanks to Bank Muscat for its generous contributions to the initiative by guaranteeing the release of 220 people. This is the second year in a row in which the bank has contributed financially to the initiative. Bank Muscat facilitated the release of 191 people last year.
'I would also like to thank citizens, residents, businessmen and private institutions for their generosity in contributing to this initiative.
'I would like to also thank the Directorate General of Implementation Affairs at The Council of Administrative Affairs for the Judiciary as well as the implementation departments at the courts for the great efforts being made to sort the names of those entitled to be helped through this initiative and to prepare their lists.'
