(MENAFN) Turkey intensified its efforts to detain diplomats suspected of having connections with cleric Fethullah Gulen, responsible for the 2016 failed coup.
Reports confirmed that this week alone, 249 arrest warrants against members within the foreign ministry were issued.
Almost each of the arrested diplomats were stripped of their positions, pending investigations, affirmed Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
Cavusoglu stated: "those are people who have been dismissed from our ministry based on concrete evidence. This judiciary decision shows how we were right to remove them from office."
