(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Water supply in North and South Sharqiyah has been hit as the main pipeline got damaged during the current spell of rain. The Public Authority for Water (Diam) said on Tuesday that it is supplying drinking water to the affected areas. A Diam official said that work is on to repair the pipeline.
'The main pipeline supplying water to North and South Sharqiyah was damaged by heavy rainfall on Sunday. Diam has taken several measures to provide potable water to people in those areas.
'We have implemented an emergency plan in coordination with the sub-committees in the wilayats of the two governorates. We are drawing water from wells in Jalaan Bani Bu Ali, Jalaan Bani Bu Hassan, Al Kamil W'Al Wafi in South Sharqiyah, and Mudhaibi, Al Qabel, Ibra and Wadi Bani Khalid in North Sharqiyah. We have pumped water manually into a number of main tanks in some of these areas,' said the official.
Technical teams of Diam in cooperation with some government agencies like the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances are working to assess damage caused to the main water pipeline. 'We are cooperating with the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources to repair the damage and construct a temporary water pipeline. We urge citizens and residents to rationalise water consumption in these areas.'
