Brasília – Driven by services and industry, formal job creation hit the highest level for the month in six years. According to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged) as of this Friday (24), 129,601 formal job posts were created last month. The indicator tracks the number of workers admitted and dismissed in the country. Brazil saw 313,835 jobs created year-to-date through April, and 477,896 jobs created in the 12 months through April.

In a breakdown by activity, there was net job creation in all eight sectors tracked. Services led the way with 66,290 jobs, followed by the process industry (20,470 jobs) and civil construction (14,067 jobs).

Employment figures went up in agriculture (13,907 jobs), retail (12,291 jobs), government the public sector (1,241 jobs); public utility industry services, which includes energy and sanitation (867 jobs), and mineral extraction (454 jobs).

Job creation is usually strong in April due to the beginning of crop season and a pickup in industry and services.
