(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) NEILI (Pajhwok): Flash floods triggered by heavy rains have caused huge financial losses to people in central Daidkundi province, officials and residents said on Thursday.
Kazem Ibrahimi, a tribal elder in Mir Ghulam locality of Neili, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News recent heavy rains resulted in floods that hit Mir Ghulam, Sarqol, Rabat, Warsal, Bargaar localities of Miramor district and Gior area of Shahristan district of the province.
Arif Essa, the Miramor district chief, said so far the exact extent of losses to people was not known but initial reports suggested many areas suffered damages in terms of financial losses due to the flash floods.
Yaqoob Shafaq, Shahristan district chief, told Pajhwok that flash floods destroyed people's farm land in the district.
Mohammad, a resident of Neili city, said rains that started the previous night damaged a number of bridges in their area. He urged the government to provide urgent assistance to the affected families.
Meanwhile, provincial natural disaster department head Sarwar Sarwari said floods triggered by heavy rains destroyed dozens of acres of farmland, dozens of bridges and rooted out trees in Miramor district.
He promised to distribute 1,500 tonnes of wheat among the affected families in 10 districts of the province.
