Jordan nearly doubles budget to promote tourism

Amman — Jordan's government has increased the allocations to the Jordan Tourism Board ( JTB ), the tourism promotion agency in the country, from JD 9 million (USD 12.7 million) to JD 17 million (USD 24 million) this year, according to information from the Jordanian news agencyPetra . The increase reflects the country's current financial situation and takes into consideration the budget's role to the increase in tourism last year.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Jordan welcomed 4.9 million tourist in 2018, a 7.8% increase over the previous year, while overnight visitors reached 4.15 million, an 8% increase. The industry reached JD 3.727 billion (USD 5.257 billion) in that year.

During the first quarter of 2019, 1.6 million tourists visited Jordan, a 2.5% year-over-year increase, with the number of overnight tourists reaching 1.3 million visitors, up 2.1%, compared with the same period of 2018.
