(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, May 23 (KUNA) -- Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Al-Safadi and his German counterpart Heiko Maas on Thursday agreed to work together to deescalate the tensions in the Middle East.
During a phone conversation, the two ministers reviewed the latest developments of the situation in the region, with emphasis on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and discussed ways for restoring regional security and stability.
They exchanged views on the prospects of a political settlement to the conflict based on the two-state vision, according to a statement by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
On the bilateral relationship, they shared the desire to expand cooperation in all fields.
Al-Safadi expressed gratitude for the German support to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the statement said.
He called for continuing the political and financial backing for the UN agency, which offers vital services for more than 5.4 million Palestinian refugees across the region.
The Jordanian minister underscored the importance of restarting the final status talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis with a view to finding a permanent settlement to the refugee crisis and other crucial issues as per the relevant UN resolutions.
He noted that Germany and the other European countries could play a central role in settling the disputes in the Middle East region. (end)
