Four accused of ties with online gambling ring


(MENAFN- Asia Times) Four people in Vietnam have been arrested on suspicion of ties with an online gambling ring worth more than 2 trillion dong (US$85.5 million). Police in Hung Yen province arrested the four men after raiding their office,Viet Nam Newsreported.


They confiscated 15 mobile phones, three personal computers, a laptop, cash, books and several bank cards.


Pham Song Bang, 29, was identified as the alleged ringleader. Police said he and his three associates had been working as agents for gambling websites. Gamblers would use real money to buy virtual currencies for gambling, and the winners received real money converted from the virtual currencies.


They are also said to be linked with a gambling ring valued at 1 trillion dong that was discovered in January. Vietnamese authorities have arrested at least 19 suspects linked to the ring based in Da Lat in Lam Dong province.


In Vietnam, legal gambling is limited to individuals who earn a certain amount of money. Gamblers can only play at specified casinos.
