Japan's goods trade drops in April


(MENAFN) Japan has booked a goods trade surplus in April from a year earlier of USD546 million, owing to declining exports amid current global trade issues.

Date of Finance Ministry said while the reading marked the third straight month of profits, the surplus tumbled 90.3 percent in the recording month from a year earlier.

According to the ministry, exports had dropped for a fifth straight month to USD60.32 billion, dropping 2.4 percent, while imports had increased by 6.4 percent to USD59.78 billion in the recording period.

Exports to China, Japan's largest trading partner, declined 6.3 percent on year, marking a second straight month of decline, while imports jumped 5.9 percent, which equates to a USD2.88 deficit with the world's second-largest economy.
