Egyptian forces attack 2 terrorist cells, kill 16 militants


(MENAFN) On Tuesday, the country's Interior Ministry stated in a statement that Egypt's police attacked two terrorist cells and murdered 16 militants in the North Sinai's city of Arish.

The statement emphasized, "The ministry's national security sector monitored the two cells that planned a series of terrorist operations against vital facilities and public figures in various parts of the city".

It added that eight machine guns, three rifles, three explosive devices and one explosive belt were discovered in their ownership.

Egypt has been combat terrorism since the army-ouster of the previous Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013 in response to mass demonstrations against his rule.
