Qatar- QU, Sidra Medicine sign MoU to train next generation of healthcare professionals

Doha: Qatar University (QU) College of Medicine signed an MoU with Sidra Medicine that works towards training the next generation of healthcare professionals.


QU will be responsible for the delivery of an undergraduate physician training program, leading to the award of the degree of Medical Doctor (MD). This educational program requires structured experimental training at approved healthcare delivery organisations.


Sidra Medicine will then recruit the qualified doctors according to their standards and provide them with the privileges to practice. Present at the signing were the Vice-President for Medical and Health Sciences and Dean of the College of Medicine at QU, Dr Egon Toft, and CEO of Sidra Medicine, Professor Robert K. Crone.


Dr Toft said, 'Through Qatar University programs, we are cultivating the future leaders of the Qatar healthcare sector. We are grateful for the cooperation of Sidra Medicine in sharing our vision for excellence in interprofessional health education and interdisciplinary health research. By coordinating with health entities in Qatar, we are allowing our students the opportunity to thrive.


CEO of Sidra Medicine, Professor Robert K. Crone commented during the signing saying, 'The relationship between QU and Sidra Medicine is important. Sidra Medicine is a member of the healthcare community here in Qatar Foundation, to support not only world-class care for its patients but also to be a platform for medical education both for students from Qatar University as well as Weill Cornell Medicine Qatar.


'We see the capacity building associated with training young physicians, pharmacists and health professionals as being a key component of the mission of Sidra Medicine. We look forward to working with Qatar University to insure that we train the next generation of healthcare professionals.
