(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) SRINAGAR — Authorities Tuesday said poppy cultivation over 700 kanals of land in Shopian and Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir had been destroyed over the last week.
' A joint team of Revenue officials, Excise Department and District Police Shopian in a special drive destroyed poppy cultivation over 465 kanals of land in the horticultural fields and common land at Malhoora, Wandina of Tehsil Zainapora during the last week,' an official spokesman said.
In Chadoora area of Budgam, authorities on Tuesday destroyed poppy cultivation spread over 250 kanals of land.
A joint team of Sub Division Chadoora headed by SDM Chadoora Abdul Aziz destroyed poppy cultivation spread over 250 kanals of land in the fields of Qazipora, Awanpora, Tangnar, Beigh Hyder, Gowharpora and other adjacent areas of Central Kashmir's Budgam district.
The Executive Magistrates of all the three Tehsils of the Chadoora along with police officials, Excise and Revenue Department also participated in the drive against the poppy cultivation.
Pertinently, engaging in production, manufacturing, possession, sale, purchase, transportation, warehousing, concealment, use or consumption, import interstate, export interstate of such drugs/substances is illegal under the law under section 18 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
