(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani'sformer National Security Advisor and a leading presidential candidate MohammadHanif Atmar at a gathering on Monday called the continuation of the incumbentgovernment "illegitimate" and made some offers to the head of thestate.
Addressing a group of presidentialcandidates, Atmar said the nation and the candidates are awaiting PresidentGhani's decision after May 22 which he said is the end of the National UnityGovernment's term according to the Constitution.
Atmar said the country will face acrisis if the incumbent government continued its term after May 22.
He reiterated that Ghani's term hasended and the continuation of his term will create a crisis in the country andthe president will be held responsible for that.
Atmar offered President Ghani to behead of a caretaker government but quit from his candidacy in the upcomingelections.
'We want that a caretakergovernment should be established, we want that if he (President Ghani) heshould quit from his candidacy if he wants to continue his tenure and he shouldform a national collective for monitoring the elections. If it is not possible,we will go for the second option which is obvious who will be its caretaker,he said.
'If he (President Ghani) does notrespect the two options, we have the third option. We will continue politicalpressure by bringing the nation and the political forces together, he said.
He mentioned that all their moveswill be made within the law.
'My last message to Mr. Presidentand his respected colleagues is that your tenure has ended. The continuation ofyour work will prove your ‘illegitimacy'. Your illegitimacy will affect thehonor of the presidency and this will pave the way for a crisis (in thecountry), he added.
Atmar said to reach their demands,the presidential candidates will continue their political pressure on thegovernment.
The country will face a"political instability" if President Ghani continues to pressurizethe Supreme Court to extend his term.
Atmar said the incumbent governmentis not committed to peace and that it is trying to postpone peace until theelections to earn another five years.
'The failure of the intra-Afghantalks in Doha was a big failure for the peace process and we see thegovernment's wrong policy behind this failure, he said.
The presidential candidates haveconsulted lawyers on the decision of the Supreme Court to extend PresidentGhani's term, he said, adding that that according to lawyers, the Supreme Court"cannot interpret the Constitution".
He said there is no guarantee thatthe incumbent government will announce another delay in the presidentialelections which has been postponed two times.
According to Atmar, the incumbentgovernment has no will to bring transparency to the elections. He says theparliamentary elections were a "scandal". (Tolo news)
