(MENAFN- Asia Times) A 49-year-old Hong Kong man was killed after his helicopter crashed at the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Gardens in Pat Heung, Tai Po in the New Territories on Sunday.
At around 5pm, witnesses reported to the police that they heard explosions and saw the helicopter disintegrate in the crash, Sing Tao Daily reported.
The pilot Andrew Wong, said to be a lawyer who had recently renewed his license, took off in the privately owned helicopter, a Robinson R-44, from Shek Kong Airfield at 4:40pm.
After the crash, Wong's body was found about 20 meters from the helicopter's cockpit. No other casualties were reported. A stretch of nearby Lam Kam Road was closed to traffic for about two hours.
The Fire Services Department said a fire caused by the crash was put out just before 6 pm and that the wreckage covered an area of 100 meters.
More than 130 emergency workers, including firefighters with breathing apparatus, 15 fire engines and 10 ambulances attended the scene.
