(MENAFN) Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has signed a bill to prohibit all abortions in the state, including rape and incest cases.
It marks the latest attempt by U.S. political conservatives challenging the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision - Roe v Wade - that established an American woman's right to terminate her pregnancy.
U.S. abortion-rights activists had already pledged to go court to block enforcement of the Alabama measure, which ranks as the nation's strictest anti-abortion law.
The decision by Ivey came a day after the Republican-controlled state Senate approved the abortion ban.
