Afghanistan- 15 Haqqani militants killed by own bombs in Paktia


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) GARDEZ/SHARANA (Pajhwok): A roadside bomb blast has killed two security personnel escorting a logistics supply convoy en route to southeastern Paktia province from Paktika province, police said on Wednesday.

The convoy came under attack in Sorki area of Zurmat district of Paktia, Paktika police spokesman Shah Mohammad Aryun said. The blast injured two policemen and damaged a Humvee vehicle.


A security official, who wished anonymity, said last night and yesterday security posts and the security convoy came under bomb and gun attacks from insurgents on the road between Paktia and Paktika.


He said two policemen were killed and three wounded in the landmine blast. He said the dead personnel included officer Mohammad Jan.


In Paktia, 15 Taliban info-icon militants were killed and ten others wounded after their own two bombs exploded in Dand Patan district, the Afghan Army's 203 Thunder Military Corps said in a statement on Wednesday.


The incident took place yesterday in Muqbil Dara area of the district, the statement said, adding the dead and wounded militants belonged to Haqqani network info-icon commanders Hafiz Rashid and Nami Jan.


Dand Patan district chief Gulab Shah confirmed the incident, saying the blasts took place one after another and that the dead and wounded were Haqqani network militants.


The military corps said four Taliban militants were killed and three others wounded during a clash with security forces in Bagyaro area of Chamkani district.


The Chamkani district chief, Eid Mohammd Ahmadzai, confirmed the news and the clash broke out after insurgents stormed security posts last night.
