Conf. on terrorism, violence on Internet to meet soon in Jordan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, May 15 (KUNA) -- The conference on ways to curb terrorism, extremism and violence on the Internet concluded on Wednesday with an agreement on a follow-up meeting in Jordan in June.
Addressing a post-event press conference, French President Emmanuel Macron said underlined the importance of setting up a secretariat and structure around the conference.
The gathered adopted "The Christchurch Call" for political and Internet leaders to cooperate to eliminate all forms of violence, terrorism, hatred and extremism from the Internet.
The call was inclusive for on Social Media platforms, which were all well represented at today's meetings.
Jordan was already noted in the "Call" for its Aqaba Process set up in 2018 to enhance global coordination against terrorism.
The June meeting will be held at that seaside resort in the Hashemite Kingdom.
Macron said that the participants issuing "The Call of Christchurch" were mindful of the need to build on earlier efforts to counter Internet misuse and terrorism.
King Abdallah II attended the Paris meeting at the Elysee Palace and met separately with the French President, Elysee sources said. (pickup previous)
