Iraq's U.S. embassy issues travel security warning

(MENAFN) The U.S. embassy in Iraq has issued a security alert, warning American citizens of "heightened tensions" in the country and advising against travelling to it.

The advisory warning was posted on Twitter on Monday, and comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East between the U.S. and Iran.

The warning comes after a surprise visit to Baghdad by U.S. secretary of state Mike Pompeo, which he said was intended at showing U.S. support for the Iraqi government.

U.S. security officials have been receiving secret information that Iran is threatening American interests in the Middle East.
