Qatar- Salmeen shines on opening day of 12th leg of Hathab

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Salmeen Sultan al-Suwaidi was in the excellent form last night as the Qatari rider clinched the Big Tour title on the opening day of the 12th and last leg of the Hathab Equestrian Tour.
Yesterday at the Al Shaqab arena, Salmeen galloped to victory with 10-year-old gelding Guilder's Empire Of The Sun in 76.28 seconds. He also took third place with 19-year-old grey gelding Cantaro 32. The tiders are allowed to compete with two horses and Salmeen made maximum of the opportunity to take two podium places in the 130/145cm class. Faleh Suwead al-Ajami finished runner-up with Ulano, with the pair coming home in 78.50secs
In the Medium Tour, Mohamed Saeed Haidan reigned supreme with his 14-year-old mare Apple Bee. The duo finished the round fastest in 64.32 secs. Saeed Nasser al-Qadi astride Daydreamer EC was second, while Mohamed Hazim Abara was third with Ambre De Beaufour.
The Small Tour 100/115cm title on the opening day went to Mohamed Nasser al-Qadi, who piloted Vlacido to victory in 49.76 secs. Ghanim Nasser al-Qadi took runner-up spot with Fudine, while Khalifa Abdulla al-Khaldi had to settle for third place with Dusty.
After six months of gruelling competition, the overall winners in various categories will be declared this weekend, with riders having collected points from the last rounds. The QR1mn equestrian series, which was launched last year, has received overwhelming response and the competition has gained immense popularity. The last leg of the series will see competitions in both showjumping and dressage.
Hathab, meaning ‘Canter' in Arabic, is an initiative launched by Qatar Olympic Committee President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani. The series is open for Qatari nationals and also to residents of Qatar. The event is being conducted jointly by Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) and Al Shaqab.
Organisers aim to improve the standard of horse riding among Qatari youths through Hathab, while also encouraging the involvement of private stables and individual horse owners to increase awareness of horsemanship as part of Qatar's history and tradition.
