Qatar- Georgian National Ballet set to perform at Katara

The Georgian National Ballet, Sukhishvili, will perform in Doha for the first time, it has been announced. The show will take place from 7pm on May 2 at the Katara Opera House, Building 16, the Georgian embassy has said in a statement. The national ballet is one of the cultural jewels of Georgia. It brings together traditional Georgian folk dance, classical ballet and modern dance elements.

For decades, spectators around the world have been fascinated by the beauty, elegant athleticism, energy, skills and originality of the Georgian National Ballet, Sukhishvili, the statement notes. Since its establishment in 1945, the company has visited five continents and more than 90 countries, undertaking more than 300 tours. More than 50mn people have watched their performances.

The event is being organised by Katara-the Cultural Village Foundation and the Georgian embassy in Qatar. "The Georgian National Ballet is always innovating Georgian dances, evolving and advancing them. The folkloric themes (choreography, music) are being modernised and filled with classical dance elements. That's what makes the company so unique, successful and demanding throughout its existence," the statement adds.

The Georgian National Ballet has around 150 dancers and its own orchestra.
