SRINAGAR — Srinagar Municipal Corporation deputy mayor Sheikh Imran Thursday alleged that 'corrupt' contractors were trying to bully him and corporators into giving up their 'fight against corruption.'
Addressing a press conference here, Imran said he would soon expose "scams and corruption" in Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
'Even a leaf cannot move in a ward without the permission of a corporator. You can, of course, keep checks and balances on the work being carried out by them. But we will not be intimidated by your threats and personal attacks,' Imran said while addressing a press conference here.
'We will not spare anyone who has made money off corruption,' he said.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Contractors Coordination Committee members who are on strike from last two days on Thursday said that baseless allegations were being leveled against them by the officials while as the fact is that authorities have failed to release the amount of the works done by them.
The contractors observed hunger strike today to protest against delay in release of their pending amount, demanding authorities to release the amount at an earliest.
They said that Private Secretary of Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran had posted a video wherein had levelled allegations against the contractors, which is totally baseless. 'After resistance from contractors, the Dy Mayor has addressed media today and levelled serious allegations against us again and has failed complaint against us,' they said.
They added that they have boycotted the works now and have also locked down the offices of Mayor, Dy Mayor, both works division and corporate hall.
'After a complaint was filed against us by Dy Mayor, some of the contractors were detained by the police following which over 100 contractors went to the police station voluntarily as mark of protest,' they said.
