SRINAGAR — Rains lashed Kashmir on Wednesday, bringing down the day temperature across the Valley even as the weatherman forecast continuation of the wet spell for next few days.
Also normal life was disrupted in Jammu after a thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds hit the city.
Strong winds uprooted trees and disrupted power supply in the city on late Tuesday night, officials said Wednesday.
Several autorickshaws and cars were damaged in storm-related incidents, they said.
In some areas, trees were uprooted leading to traffic congestion for several hours, the officials said.
No loss of life or injury was reported, they said, adding that power supply was restored in some areas of the city.
Meanwhile, most parts of Kashmir, including summer capital Srinagar, received intermittent rains since overnight, an official of the local meteorological office here said.
He said the rains brought down the maximum temperature by several degrees across Kashmir with Kupwara town in the north Kashmir registering a drop of about seven degrees from the normal temperature.
Kupwara, with 13.2mm of rainfall from 0830 to 1730 hours, recorded a maximum temperature of 16.5 degrees Celsius against normal temperature of 23.0 degrees Celsius, the official said.
He said Srinagar recorded 18.0 degrees Celsius, compared to 22.3 degrees Celsius normal for this time of the year and it had 12mm of rainfall during the day. Qazigund, the gateway town of Valley witnessed 21.4mm rainfall and recorded maximum of 18.8 degrees Celsius while Pahalgam, the famous hill resort also in south Kashmir had 16.4mm of rainfall and maximum temperature rose to 12.6 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort had 10mm of rainfall and mercury rose to 11.5 Degrees Celsius, the official said.
The weatherman has forecast more rains over the Valley over the next three days.
'There is possibility of widespread light to moderate rain/thundershowers in J & K divisions and scattered in Ladakh region in next 24 hours,' he said, adding, 'For subsequent two days there is possibility of fairly widespread to scattered light rain and thundershowers.'
