KABUL: India has donated 100 wheelchairs, in a ceremony that
took place at Ministry of Defense headquarter, to the disables personnel of Afghan
National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) who have sacrificed and lost their
body parts defending their country against terrorism.
In this ceremony acting Defense Minister Abdullah Khalid,
considered India one of Afghanistan's top friend counties and thanked Indian
people and government for their unconditional help and support to the ANDSF.
He added, 'we have other neighbouring countries too which
send us bullets, they train terrorists in their soil and send them to
Afghanistan to harm Afghans. But India is one of the countries which has played
a vital role in reconstruction of Afghanistan.'
At the end of the ceremony Indian ambassador Vini Kumar
appreciated the ANDSF heroism and promised further assistances to Afghanistan
in different areas.
As strategic partner, Indian has trained over 4,800 Afghan
National Army and Afghan Air Forces Personnel since 2005 at various training
facilities of the Indian Army and Indian Air forces, Indian embassy said in a
statement sent to Afghanistan Times.
India also has trained two batches of Women Officers of the
Afghan National Army and the Afghan Air Forces at the Officers Training Academy
in Chennai in 2017, and 2018, the statement said, adding that India also
extends medical facilities to 100 battle casualties of the Afghan National Army
every year as part of the defense cooperation.
With focus on the martyrs of the Afghan National Defense and
Security Forces, 500 scholarships had been announced for the Next of Kin (NoK)
of martyrs in 2015, the statement added. 'In the academic year 2018-19, 79
students commenced their education in various educational institutions across
India under this scholarship program.'
The statement furthered that the gift of motorized wheel
chairs will help disabled Afghan National Army personnel lead a better quality
of life.
