world. The day is marked in Afghanistan, where few people allocate time for
book reading, according to publishers and book sellers, who consider internet
as one of the elements.
They believe that low literacy is another reason that deprives
people especially the youth from book reading.
But, a number of youth who go to book stores for buying
book, say that the culture of book reading was still strong, and a large number
of the youth particularly university students spend their times in the
libraries and read books.
There are book publishing companies and book stores in Kabul
city that provide discount in book price on the World Book Day.
Some book store owners say that people's interest in book
reading had increased and they make effort to encourage book readers with
special discounts.
The government holds no special program to mark the World
Book Day, but people celebrate this day by buying books annually.
