Qatar- Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Hospital for Rehabilitation launched in Gaza


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) celebrated the launch of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prostheses in Gaza.
QFFD director general Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari announced the launch of the hospital, which was funded by the QFFD on behalf of Qatar and implemented by the Gaza Rehabilitation Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health of Qatar, which has sent a number of doctors to operate and train the medical staff.
Al-Kuwari said: 'Providing support to the Arab World, and especially to the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip, has always been a top priority for Qatar.
This hospital aims to provide rehabilitation treatment to Palestinian patients suffering from limb amputation to help them to get back to normal life.
The population needs this kind of support to live a decent life, especially in light of the difficult living conditions and the challenges they are facing in accessing treatment services.
The ceremony was attended by Khalid al-Hardan, deputy ambassador of Qatar to Gaza; Dr Yousef Abu al-Rish, undersecretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Health; Dr Raafat Labad, director general of the hospital; Gilan Devorn, director of the Red Cross Mission in Gaza, In addition to members of the Governmental Council, Palestinian leaders, heads of trade unions and a QFFD delegation.
In their speeches, Dr al-Rish and Dr Labad, appreciated the role played by Qatar in the humanitarian and developmental projects in Gaza and expressed their thanks to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.
The hospital was built on an area of 12,000sq m with a capacity of 100 beds. It has a range of key departments to provide high-quality care according to international quality standards, including a prosthetics and amputee rehabilitation service, a physiotherapy service, an occupational therapy service, a nursing service, and a department for speech and swallowing disorder. The hospital also provides paediatric service.
The hospital serves all Palestinian citizens with disabilities and special needs, focusing on the Gaza Strip because of the location of the hospital.
