Afghanistan: 8 workers fatally suffocate at coal mine


(MENAFN) A local official declared that around eight workers have suffocated to death at a coal mine pit in Afghanistan's northern province of Samangan on Sunday.

Leader of provincial council Raz Mohammad confirmed that the workers were carrying out tasks at the coal mine in Dara-i-Suf-i-Bala, west of provincial capital Aybak, when a toxic gas leaked leaving them dead.

He added that the families of the deaths have been informed after the incident.

Coal mines in the province are known for their dangerous working state.
