Qatar- PISQ attends 4th edition of BIMUN

Doha: The 4th Edition of the Barcelona International Model United Nation Conference (BIMUN) was held from April 4 to 7, in the city of Sant Cugat and Barcelona Spain. This year over 300 participants from 25 different nationalities and four different continents participated in BIMUN.

Pakistan International School Qatar (PISQ) was the only school from Qatar that attended the conference. A training session was arranged for the students on April 4 at Casal Torreblanca Sant Cugat which was very informative and students were able to understand and get used to the BIMUN Rules of procedure.

The conference started with exciting team building activities which were held at Parc de la Ciutadella, through various outdoor activities which were both fun and challenging. The idea was to give a chance to the delegates to know the committee they will be working with throughout the conference and learn to develop the ways of working together in a team so that they are confident and can trust within the members of the committee and they can be prepared to face the challenges that lie ahead, being capable of discussing and building solutions together.

At the opening ceremony many prominent speakers delivered key-note speeches to the session participants.

BIMUN 2019's endeavour was 'Working towards the successful completion of global cooperation. It's now time for the globalized society to face the new social reality the world is living in. During the conference, participants were engaged in a simulation of the UN, taking on roles as diplomats to discuss and debate the issues of global cooperation and came up with many impressive solutions which can help in building bridges between societies. The delegation of Pakistan International School Model United Nations (PISMUN) consisted of Aruba Atif and Alyna Arshad who represented Singapore in UNHRC and UNODC, respectively.

Aruba Atif presented her policy statement and debated on 'The Situation of women and children in refugee camps and The Rohingya Crisis in UNHRC Committee. Whereas, Alyna Arshad discussed 'Countering sex trafficking for the purpose of sexual slavery and 'Defining the response to indiscriminate attacks in UNODC. The Director PISMUN, Mubarika Noman, also attended the three-day conference. She trained the students for the BIMUN and informed that it was a great learning experience for the students which has changed their vision and made them more confident.

PISQ Principal Nargis Raza Otho said, 'It is a milestone in the history of the school that the school was invited to attend this international conference. I always believed in the potential of my students and they made me proud by representing not only our school but our country in Spain.
