Qatar- Health ministry, HMC sign pact with University Hospital of Heidelberg

The Ministry of public Health and the Hamad Medical Co-operation (HMC) have signed a Memorandum of Co-operation with the University Hospital of Heidelberg, Germany, aimed at sharing knowledge and experiences in health-related areas as well as treating patients.
The agreements were signed by HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari and Chief Medical Director and Chairwoman of the Board Heidelberg University Hospital Dr Annette Gruters-Kieslich and the Managing Director and Deputy Chairman of the Hospital.
Dr Hanan al-Kuwari said that the agreements are part of the health ministry's keenness to establish partnerships with the best medical institutions and centres in the world in order to exchange experiences and treat patients in different disciplines, which will support the great progress in the healthcare system achieved according to Qatar National Vision 2030.
In her statement, she expressed the importance of co-operation agreements with the University Hospital of Heidelberg in strengthening relations between health institutions and countries alike, and which will contribute to the development of high-quality health services provided to patients.
She also praised the excellent collaboration with Heidelberg Hospital two decades ago, which has resulted in partnerships such as co-operation in the establishment of the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR), (formerly Al Amal Hospital), and the Early Detection of Neonatal Diseases and the Declaration of Cooperation for the establishment of the National Center for Rare Diseases, as well as the launching of the Doha-Heidelberg Research Conference in 2018 as an annual forum, expressing the hope to enhance the co-operation between the two sides.
For her part, Chief Medical Director and Chairwoman of the Board Heidelberg University Hospital Dr Annette Gruters-Kieslich noted the signing of the agreements which contribute to enhancing the great co-operation between the two sides, especially through the establishment of distinguished co-operation programs in many health fields in the interest of both sides.
The co-operation areas between the Ministry of Public Health, HMC and Heidelberg include research on genetic testing of newborns, clinical trials, especially for patients with cancer, rare diseases, highly specialised laboratory tests, advisory services and training. It will also include the opening of an office in the hospital building for coordinators from the Qatar Medical Office, Bonn in order to manage the cases of Qatari patients at Heidelberg University Hospital.
On the other hand, the Minister of Public Health visited the Heidelberg Institute of Human Genetics and learnt about all the specialties and fields of the institute.
Dr al-Kuwari also opened the coordination office for the care of Qatari patients at the Heidelberg Hospital of the Medical Office in Bonn.
