(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) A journalist based in Mullaitivu was arrested today over a complaint filed by the Navy.
He was subsequently released on bail.
Tamil Guardian said that its Mullaitivu correspondent Shanmugam Thavaseelan was arrested a day after he was questioned by the Police.
The journalist's lawyers argued that the allegations leading to his arrest were fabricated and part of a targeted campaign of harassment and intimidation.
The reason given for the arrest was that he had assaulted and caused injury to the Navy officer during a protest staged by families of the missing. (Colombo Gazette)
