Qatar- QC brings attention to hardships of orphans

Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) marked Arab Orphan Day yesterday by organising a mass festival at Aspire Park in order to raise awareness about the hardship of orphans around the world.

The event also aimed to encourage donations for the purpose of sponsoring and supporting orphans. It was attended by over 1,000 people. Qatar Charity, through its initiative ‘Rofaqa', succeeded in sponsoring 150,000 orphans around the world by the end of last year and now it aims to sponsor over 50,000 orphans by the end of next year. ‘Rofaqa' initative is a global humanitarian project focusing on the needs of orphans and children. It was founded in 2013 by Qatar Charity.

To draw attention to the hardships of orphans around the world, football stars from Qatar National Team also participated in the event and played a match with 'Future Leaders team that affiliated with Qatar Charity.

The festival included a group of entertaining, colouring, sports, cultural activities in addition to performing arts, handcrafts, games, competitions, and gifts. A large group of children, adults, social media figures and sports stars participated in the event.

The participants enjoyed the festive atmosphere and thanked Qatar Charity for its efforts of sponsoring orphans hoping that all these efforts to continue to reach out more orphans around the world who are in need of such help.

An official of Qatar Charity said that the organisation will organise several other events in the month of Ramadan, including the challenge of Rofaqa and many other events.

He also pointed out that the programme was successful and it was attended by a large number of people, expressing his confidence that Qatar Charity would achieve the targeted number of a ‘biggest family' of orphans, which is 200,000, in a short time.
