#AnimeBytes: Types of Indian fans you might have come across
19 Apr 2019

In light of anime's growing popularity over the world, Indians are steadily venturing into the territory as well.

Over the last few years, the number of Indian anime fans has increased exponentially.

This is evident from their active participation in online communities and forums.

Because most fans are similar but not every fan is alike, here are some otaku types you might have seen.

The one who is moving to Japan 'next year'
The Planner

This person started telling you about the great 'Japanese culture' and how he plans to move to Japan the next year, six years ago.

His knowledge of Japan (he calls it Nippon) entirely comes from anime and he basically addresses everyone as 'senpai'.

This fan might never visit the country. If he does, he'll surely be disappointed over the lack of mecha-ninjas and Afro-Samurai.

The intellectual who only watches 'real' anime
The Elitist

This person watched Dragon Ball Z years ago but doesn't have any memory of such a common series.

She only talks about Studio Ghibli movies like Laputa and Tale of Princess Kaguya or series like Mushi-Shi and Yojôhan shinwa taikei.

She can discuss the philosophical aspects of such relatively obscure movies and series at length but flips out as soon as someone mentions Pokemon.

This fan knows that Naruto became a Super Saiyan Bankai
The Casual

Essentially, this fan hasn't seen much anime. She just knows that some animated characters from Japan have gravity-defying hair and scream for ten episodes to power up.

She often confuses storylines and when she quotes anime, it is pure cringe.

She mostly watches English dubs and would rather watch Naagin instead of Naruto.

This fan is commonly known as 'Casual cartoon watcher'.

The weird fan you would probably want to avoid
The Weirdo

This guy has weird fantasies about his favorite 'kawai-chan'! He has her poster in his room and even a body pillow he imported from Japan.

He mostly watches harem anime and claims his parents don't understand him well.

His laptop has terabytes of images featuring anime girls and has watched Azumanga Daioh on repeat, several times.

If you know him, stay away.
