U.S police nab man after shifting gas into landmark cathedral


(MENAFN) Local authorities declared that a man has been arrested after attempting to shift gasoline into St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.

The incident took place two days after a fire destroyed the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Police have cordoned the cathedral and probes are ongoing into the man's motives and whether he is emotionally ill.

The New York Police Department confirmed that the suspect, aged 37, from the U.S. state of New Jersey has gone to the cathedral on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan on foot with two
gas canisters at about 9 p.m. (0200 GMT on Thursday), however, was blocked a the gate by securities.
