(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) The U.S. and China are planning for two more rounds of trade talks with the aim of completing a deal by late May or early June, according a report Wednesday, Trend reported citing The Washington Examiner.
U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin are scheduled to travel Beijing in the last week of April to continue trade talks and their counterpart, Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, according to a Wall Street Journal report Wednesday, citing an anonymous source. Liu will travel to D.C. the following week with the aim of wrapping up the talks.
On Saturday, Mnuchin told reporters in Washington 'I think we're hopeful that we're getting close to the final round of concluding issues."
A late May or early June deal would represent another postponement by the administration. Earlier this month, President Trump predicted a deal by early May.
The two countries are trying to conclude negotiations, but the talks have dragged on due to issues relating to enforcement of the deal, whether the U.S. can impose tariffs on China for any violations, and whether the U.S. will lift its existing tariffs of 10-25 percent on $250 billion worth of Chinese goods.
