Jordan- Aqaba to submerge out-of-service aircraft to attract divers

(MENAFN - Jordan News Agency)
Aqaba, Apr. 16 (Petra) -- The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) is preparing to submerge a non-Jordanian commercial aircraft in Aqaba waters to attract divers and provide a colorful coral reef environment undersea.

Commissioner for Economic Affairs at the ASEZA Sharhabeel Madi said the TriStar airliner is old and out-of-service, adding that it has been held at the King Hussein International Airport for years, noting that the authority had purchased it for that purpose.

An official ceremony will be held in the next few days, he added.

Last year, the ASEZA submerged an out-of-service Jordanian military aircraft "a C-30" that His Majesty King Abdullah offered as a gift to Aqaba. It is now an attraction for divers and an environment for coral, fish and marine organisms.
