Lebanese gov't to discuss means to ease budget deficit


(MENAFN) Lebanon's government is scheduled to convene within this week in order to consider ways to ease the budget deficit of the country.

Tackling the budget deficit is expected to significantly reduce the Lebanese increasing debt.

A number of government ministers affirmed "the country is on the edge of an abyss. It is no longer acceptable to turn a blind eye to all the warnings made by the economic committees, international institutions and countries supporting Lebanon."

Cabinet ministers called on the government to avoid breaking its vow to lessen of the budget deficit, handle corruption and public fund waste.

They added "the government pays more than $5.5 billion to around 150,000 employees and more than 100,000 retired military personnel and civil servants."
