Canada sanctions 43 officials related to Venezuelan crisis

(MENAFN) Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland announced the country to have imposed fresh restricted measures against 43 top officials "responsible for the deteriorating situation in Venezuela."

This is the fourth time for Canada to impose sanctions, with 70 people related to the Venezuelan crisis already in the list.

Each of the newly sanctioned individuals, the Canadian foreign minister revealed, are senior officials of the government of President Nicolas Maduro.

In a statement, the foreign minister affirmed "during the Lima Group meeting held in Ottawa on Feb. 4, 2019, we called on the international community to take action against the Maduro regime."

Freeland further added "today, Canada is taking that action by holding 43 more people accountable for their roles in worsening the situation in Venezuela."
