Qatar- Tarsheed saves QR1.75bn by reducing consumption of electricity, water, gas

Doha: Under the generous patronage of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) organised yesterday the seventh anniversary of its ongoing ‘Tarsheed' programme at Sheraton Doha under the slogan ‘Towards Sustainability'.

'National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) run by Kahramaa has made a financial saving of QR1.75bn in 2018 by reducing the consumption of electricity, water and gas, said Kahramaa President and Chairman of the Steering Committee of Tarsheed, Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari.

The grand and glittering event was graced with the presence of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, H E Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, ministers, dignitaries, diplomats, high level officials from different sectors.

Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, said: 'Tarsheed programme in 2018 has significantly resulted in reduction of electricity consumption of 6295 GWh, water consumption of 33.22 million m3 and natural gas consumption of 60642MCF (million cubic feet), representing a financial saving of QR1.75bn, despite the challenges faced by Qatar since the illegal blockade and remarkable growths of overall economy with the sincere efforts of the government in a year 2017 and 2018.

Al Kuwari said that Tarsheed programme aims to reduce per capita electricity consumption by 6 percent, water by 10 percent, and harmful carbon emissions by 7 percent until 2022.

'Through Tarsheed, Kahramaa is increasing awareness about conservation and energy efficiency in all sectors and all walks of lives to reduce the harmful impact of carbon emissions, said Al Kuwari.

He said that Kahramaa is striving to inculcate and create awareness of conservation and energy efficiency in all sectors to reduce the per capita consumption of water and electricity and carbon emissions.

A short film entitled ‘Towards Sustainability' was also shown depicting the milestones of Tarsheed during 2018, which marks the first year of its second phase with its new initiatives and upcoming plans until 2022.

The ceremony was attended by a group of children who helped raising awareness about the objectives of Tarsheed and the importance of commitment of the new generation to work to achieve by reducing the consumption of electricity and water for energy efficiency and environmental conservation. During the ceremony, H E the Prime Minister honoured the winners of Tarsheed's seven competitions this year.
