UAE- Young Emirati talents to compete in 49 skills at Emirates Skills

ABU DHABI, 15th April, 2019 (WAM) The three-day Emirates Skills' National Competition organised by the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training and launched today will see 402 students from around the country compete in 49 skill categories ranging from carpentry, to mechatronics, and media production, at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The competition was launched under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF).

Annually, the competition attracts UAE nationals, both young men and women, who compete in the field of craftsmanship and technology and be evaluated by a technical committee and internationally accredited experts based on the standards and judging criteria of WorldSkills organisation. Winners are eligible to compete in WorldSkillsGCC and WorldSkills Competitions.

Mubarak Al Shamsi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, said the event is part of the national strategy to empower young Emiratis in areas of skills, creativity, capacities and technology so as to lead the nation's development in the post-oil era in alignment with the UAE Vision 2021 and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

''In the 2019 edition, the number of skills were increased to 49 from just 7 in the inaugural competition so as to attract more young talents,'' he added.
