Kuwait calls for security, stability in Sudan

(MENAFN - Trend News Agency) Kuwait's government said that it hopes measures taken in Sudan would pave way for security and stability in the country, Trend reported citing Xinhua.

The government, in a meeting chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, said in a statement that it hopes the measures would honor "legitimate" aspirations of the Sudanese people.

It urged the Sudanese people to observe the country's interest in a drive to maintain Sudan's unity, sovereignty and independence, the statement said.

The Sudanese army ousted and detained former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on April 11 in response to four months of nationwide protests against his three-decade rule.

Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) chief Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan announced in a televised speech on Saturday that a civilian government will soon be formed based on national consensus.

He also assured that the TMC is committed to a two-year transitional period after which the rule will be handed over to the civilian government formed by the people.
