Al Jazeera Centre for Studies and Al Jazeera Mubasher are organising a public seminar entitled, 'Algeria's Protests: The Prospects of Pacifism in Establishing a Democratic State, today.

It comes in the wake of the recent developments in the Algerian arena, namely the continuous popular movement that started two months ago, that caused President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to resign from office. It will explore the reasons behind the movement, and shed light on its key actors and their components, abilities, and vision for the nature of the next phase.

The seminar will conclude with a discussion about the international positions, and how they will shape the future of Algeria.

The invited panellists include Noureddine Bekkis, professor of sociology at the University of Algiers; Haoues Taguia, researcher at Al Jazeera Centre for Studies; Abdennour Benantar, lecturer at the University of Paris VIII; and Mehdi Mabrouk, former Tunisian minister of culture and director of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Tunis. The seminar will take place at 7:00pm at Al Jazeera Media Training and Development Centre Auditorium.
