São Paulo – The movie Yara, a Lebanese-Iraqi-French production, will be featured in Circuito Indie Festival 2019 , a film festival slated for April at Social Service of Commerce (SESC) units throughout the state of São Paulo. Yara will show Tuesday (16) at 6pm in Jundiaí and 8pm in Piracicaba. The movie is rated 12+ and admission is free.

Set in Northern Lebanon, Yara tells the story of a young woman who lives with her grandfather in a farm on Qadisha Valley. The area is uneventful, since most of the former residents have either moved or passed away. But the girl's life takes a twist once she meets Elias, a young wanderer who stops by the farm. Yara lives out a summertime romance with him amid tending to the goats, feeding the chickens, doing the laundry and taking sun baths.

The movie was directed by Abbas Fahdel, who was born in Babylon, Iraq, but has been living in France – where he attended Film School at Sorbonne – since his youth. His past work includes documentary work and a fictional feature film about Iraq. In the 2002 documentary Back to Babylon, he recounts a trip back to Iraq after many years away.

The festival will span in the cities of Santos, Sorocaba, Presidente Prudente and Araraquara, in addition to Jundiaí and Piracicaba. Featured movies include Tower. A bright day (Poland), Parquet (France), The Graduate (USA), Asako I & II (France-Japan), Before We Vanish (Japan), Breathless (France), and Closeness (Russia). The event will run until April 30 and all sessions are free of charge.
