On the guarantees of justice access at investigation and trial, Talhouni noted the national legislation has been amended to ensure the right of all suspects to have a lawyer since their apprehension and during the litigation stages and provides free legal assistance to those in need in criminal cases.
To deliver justice to vulnerable groups, he added the penalties for the crimes against women, children and persons with disabilities were made stiffer.
Talhouni said Jordan signed the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict and the sale of children.
The event, the largest international conference on the prevention of impunity in the Middle East, will feature rich discussions in four key sessions and three working groups discussing more than 20 working papers.
The conference, expected to deliver key recommendations on the agenda's issues, witnesses the participation of 250 representatives of government agencies, governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as the heads and experts of international commissions of inquiry, senior OHCHR staff, representatives of the UN contractual and non-contractual committees, experts and judges of specialised international tribunals and the International Criminal Court.
