Syria, Iraq, Iran discuss railway system connection

(MENAFN) A Syrian Ministry of Transport source revealed that negotiations will begin with Iraq and Iran to review a plan aimed at linking the railway systems of the three countries.

According to the Syrian source, "now, the countries are working on the resumption of the project connecting the railways of Syria, Iran and Iraq and are determining the date of the meeting between the representatives of the countries to develop the points of view."

This strategic plan, the source explained, is looking to offer Iraq and Iran availability to ports located in Syria.

The project commenced ahead of the eruption of the 2011 crisis, as Syria managed to wrap up 97 percent of the project before the devastating event.
