Afghanistan- Khalilzad, Pakistani foreign minister discuss Afghan peace process


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): The US special envoy for Afghan peace process, Zalmai Khalilzad discussed the Afghan peace drive with Pakistani foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistani foreign ministry said.

On his sixth trip from the US following his negotiations with the Taliban , Khalilzad has met with several Afghan government officials and politicians in Kabul over the last few days.

He was expected to travel to Islamabad few days ago, but his trip was delayed for unknown reasons.

A statement from the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that Khalilzad met with the deputy Pakistani delegation headed by foreign minister, Tahmina Janjua.

Later, Khalizad met separately with Pakistani foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and shared his information about the progress in peace process.

Qureshi welcomed advance in the Afghan peace process and called peace in Afghanistan valuable for the whole region, the source said. Qureshi stressed to continue his country's support for peace in Afghanistan.

Before traveling to Pakistan , Khalilzad in Kabul said, 'If Pakistan wants good relations with the US then it should change its policy towards Afghanistan and stop interference in this country,'

He said that they supported a deal between Afghanistan and Pakistan also signed regarding peace.
