The water levels in Lake Urmia, located between Iran's East Azerbaijan and West Azerbaijan provinces, have increased by 31 centimeters during the current water year, compared to the levels from the previous year, Farhad Sarkhosh, head of West Azerbaijan's Lake Urmia Restoration Committee, told ILNA, Trend reports.
According to Sarkhosh, the current water level of the lake is 1,271.1 meters, when compared to the water levels of international waters.
Sarkhosh also said that the water surface area in Lake Urmia is 2,583 square kilometers, adding that there was an increase of 352 square kilometers compared to the previous water year.
"The water of Lake Urmia has increased by 740 million cubic meters, and has now reached 2,000,000,640 cubic meters," he said.
Sarkhosh said that the provision of water to the lake from the Ajabshir Ghaleh Chay dam in East Azerbaijan Province has commenced.
He added that precipitation from the beginning of the year was 334/5 millimeters, and that there was an 82 percent increase compared to the previous water year.
